Channel Scanning, Peaking antenna, and searching for channels

Possible Pattern Noted by FCC: Double Rescan May be Needed

Regarding reception & signal problems with high VHF channels, the FCC is trying to determine if there is a pattern nationwide.  They have identified one potential solution that has been successful in solving the majority of problems for some stations — a “double rescan” the converter boxes. Here are the steps:
Detach antenna
Rescan converter [...]

Let’s get this party started!

It looks like this time we’re really going to do it! June 12th is almost here! I really wonder what Mr. Philo T. Farnsworth would say about the digital conversion. I’m betting he’d be proud of what his invention has involved into and I doubt he ever imagined back then what inventing the first electronic [...]

Seventeen to go!

17 days to the switch! I received some good questions  today I want to share with everyone. Here’s an excerpt from a reader that posted a comment.
I decided to let cable go to save money and then realized all the shows I watch are on regular TV anyway. Will miss the DVR but I will [...]

R U RDY 4 DTV?

If you can read the title properly, then you are likely ready for June 12th. Are you ready for DTV seems silly to ask only a few weeks away, but it’s a fact that not every house is ready. The FCC released the statistics from last Thursday’s Nationwide soft test, and North Carolina ranked high in the [...]

TV Gone

I love technology, computers, and handheld gadgets. I drive the wheels off the stuff just to see what it can do, and naturally, just for fun. We can do some very cool stuff today that was never dreamed of only a few years back. Our website www.mync.com is a prime example of how anyone can [...]

Looks like somebody’s got a case of the Mundaze!

I guess I don’t need to tell you I am not a fan on Mondays. It’s always my busiest day of the week, but at least the Sun came out even though it was a little unseasonably cool this morning. I don’t really mind being busy when it’s a productive busy, and I had a [...]

The time has been set! Noon Thirty 6-12-09

In February all the stations seemed to have planned for a midnight switch time, but the delay bill has offered stations the ability to pick anytime they want. All the stations in Raleigh now seem to agree we’ll do it at 12:30 in the afternoon. That allows everyone to do a full re-scan anytime after [...]

Welcome to the 30 day countdown. Again.

It’s not exactly time travel like in Star Trek, but certainly a feeling of deja vue! Haven’t we been here before? That’s right, the 30 day countdown is here again. I doubt we’ll stop the clock again, so let’s get ready together with 30 blogs in 30 days. I will be posting everyday, as well [...]

Maximizing the Antenna

My antenna was doing fine, but I felt it could be a bit better and I wanted to search the airwaves for “hidden treasure”. I mentioned earlier in a post about DXing, but another form of searching the airwaves is peeking into neighboring markets. It’s fairly easy to pick up analog signals from Richmond, VA. [...]
