NC Stations Conduct a DTV Soft Test
Many stations in the state participated in a DTV soft test coordinated with the NC Association of Broadcasters, where we put up a slide over the NTSCĀ feed to help people identify which televisions, cable, and satellite signals are not yet digital ready. The results were very favorable, and mostly what we (at least what I) expected. We received some very good feedback, and the data is still coming in, but most responses were very positive. Even on my “Live TV” debut! Here’s what it looked like if your TV is ready:
Some important information we learned:
- Several smaller cable systems are not yet ready, but expect to be by the end of the year.
- Many apartment complexes have their own small master antenna system or cable systems and are not yet ready.
- Both DirecTV and Dish Network take the HD and SD feeds and the SD did not pass, although the HD was fine if you have their HD system. They will transition in December.
- Time-Warner switched that morning, however their equipment had a software problem, and later had to switch back to the SD feed. They are working to correct it now, and the smaller out-lying systems they have will be upgraded later.
- We appreciate all the input and responses from the viewers, and encourage everyone to write in a let us know how it went.
